Older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation – and it can have a serious effect on health. Hundreds of thousands of elderly people are lonely and cut off from society in this country, especially those over the age of 75.
At St Mark’s we are trying to do something about this by inviting elderly groups in for lunch. Caterlink and Islington are sponsoring our initiative and have even paid for a line dancing teacher to provide some light exercise after lunch. On 20th June we had our first group of visitors from St Mark’s church. The visit went really well with all visitors commenting positively on the experience. We hope to roll the offer out to other groups and are working with Islington Council to find key groups.
