The children wrote down the first impressions of their Business Volunteer. First Impressions: They made assumptions on their Business Volunteer based on looks, presentation and communication. First Impressions: They ‘guessed’ on what their favourite TV programme might be. First Impressions: They made assumptions on where they might live First Impression: They made assumptions on the car they might drive The children shared their ‘assumptions’ with their Business Volunteer and then informed if they were correct. Some ‘assumptions’ were correct. The next task was to create a skills poster about all the skills needed for the world of work. The next activity was ‘What am I good at?’ The last activity was ‘ Employability Challenge’ The challenge was for the children and Business Volunteers to work together. The children ‘interviewed’ their Business Volunteer. The children asked the Business Volunteers questions to determine whether they were suitable for the job. I think the children were impressed and all Business Volunteers were ‘hired’ by the children. Which group could create the tallest tower? Using newspaper and Sellotape, which group would create the tallest tower? A good tactic: a triangular base! Rolling the newspapers into cylinder shapes made it stronger. The prize: Who would win the prize for the tallest tower? Pretty tall, but shaky, would it stay up? Is it the tallest? All the children rose to the challenge! The air was tense, the excitement and competition was nerve racking! This challenge needed teamwork! Did the children have it? Jobs were allocated, everyone relied on each other. Checking out the competition…is ours the tallest? Not much time left! This does not look very stable? Will it stay up? Oh no! Praying for it to stay up! The winning group! After all the hard work the winning group enjoyed their prize, Maltesers Well Done! Now for some chocolate!! We have used our Christian Values of Trust, Creation and Respect when working with local business professionals.
