This black history month in year 5 we have been examining racism in America. The children have watched a documentary called Growing up Black in America and we have been discussing why we think racist attitudes still exist today. The children came up with some very interesting ideas as you can see by their information posters. Their main point was that we all need to combat and stand up to racism as much as we can and be a positive role model for everybody, everywhere.
In English we have been looking at some significant black people in modern society such as Stormzy, Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Chance the Rapper and Lauryn Hill. We have been researching them and how they have been positive role models for the youth of our diverse society. These people have all made strong positive impacts. The children have then written biographies about these people which were superb pieces of writing if I do say so myself!
