In Autumn, we decided that a rename of our impact Zone was long over-due. After a competition within school, and subsequently, reading though multiple applications, SLT agreed, that the submission from a Year 5 pupil was the winner.

A well-structured and thought-provoking piece of persuasive writing, extolling the virtues of naming the area in honour of Nelson Mandela, really struck a chord with us. Nelson Mandela, a man who’s destiny was to be unlawfully incarcerated for 30 years and forgave those who wronged him. Nelson Mandela, a man born of nobility in his ancient land, who went on to arrest power from those who had been subjected him and those like him to an abhorrent apartheid regime. This persuasive piece by our Year 5 pupil, highlighted an extraordinary life, which was nothing short of awe inspiring. One of great suffering, yet greater hope.

He eloquently presented his argument with tremendous knowledge and understanding. In his final argument, he presented us with a quote from Nelson Mandela, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” This is the mindset we hope to instill in our children. By virtues of belief, love and perseverance, our children can achieve, like Mandela, Great things.

Well done!
