P.S.H.E at St. Mark’s
Intent
At St. Mark’s Primary School, our PSHE curriculum aims to develop well-rounded, confident, and responsible individuals who can positively contribute to society. Using the ‘You, Me and PSHE’ scheme, we ensure our pupils gain the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to navigate their personal, social, and emotional lives effectively. Our intent is to foster resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence, equipping children with the tools to make safe, healthy, and informed choices in a diverse and ever-changing world.
Implementation
We deliver a bespoke PSHE curriculum that is carefully planned to reflect the needs of our local community while ensuring coverage of statutory requirements. The ‘You, Me and PSHE’ scheme provides the foundation, but we adapt and enrich it to ensure cultural relevance and meaningful progression throughout each key stage. Lessons are engaging and interactive, using a variety of teaching methods including discussions, role-play, and collaborative activities. Our curriculum is structured to build on prior learning, ensuring pupils can explore topics such as mental health, relationships, online safety, and citizenship with increasing depth and maturity as they move through the school.
Impact
Through our PSHE curriculum, children at St. Mark’s develop strong emotional literacy, self-awareness, and social skills, enabling them to form healthy relationships and make responsible decisions. They leave our school as resilient, informed, and active citizens who are well-prepared for the challenges of modern life. Our PSHE provision also promotes a positive school culture, supporting children’s overall well-being and contributing to the inclusive, supportive environment that is central to our ethos. By embedding the core values of respect, responsibility, and empathy, we see lasting impacts on behaviour, attitudes, and personal development across our school community.
