This year marks a special milestone for St Mark’s Church of England Primary School as we celebrate 70 years since our school was rebuilt after the original site was destroyed during World War II. To honour this occasion, pupils and staff stepped back in time, dressing up in fabulous 1950s-inspired outfits and taking part in a range of exciting activities.
Throughout the day, children designed celebration posters, created birthday cards, and wrote newspaper articles about some of the incredible events that happened during the 1950s. These included the release of the beloved Disney film Lady and the Tramp, the opening of the very first McDonald’s restaurant, the invention of the microwave oven, and the grand opening of Disneyland!
A highlight of the celebrations was a special Golden Time “evacuation” experience, where pupils were relocated to different classes for an afternoon of fun. Activities included:
– Watching Lady and the Tramp
– Decorating delicious cupcakes kindly baked by our amazing Kitchen Team
– Designing beautiful tea cups
It was a fantastic day filled with fun, laughter, and learning about the past. Happy 70th birthday, St Mark’s! Here’s to many more years of inspiring young minds.
