Today, Year 4 embarked on an unforgettable journey to the heart of Roman London with a class trip to the London Mithraeum! The experience combined history, hands-on exploration, and a dash of mystery, taking pupils back nearly 2,000 years to a time when Romans walked the streets of what we now know as modern-day London.
Discovering the Temple of Mithras:
Located just beneath the bustling streets of the City of London, the London Mithraeum houses one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Britain: the Temple of Mithras. This ancient Roman temple, dedicated to the god Mithras, was first discovered in the 1950s during construction work and has since been beautifully restored. The temple offers a rare glimpse into Roman religion and the mysterious God of Mithras, a god associated with bravery, loyalty, and light.
