This term in Tundra, we are learning all about WW2.
As part of our D&T, we have each designed and created our very own gas masks using up-cycled and recyclable materials.
We learned about all of the different features of a WW2 gas mask and the materials used to create them.
Through our research, we were surprised to find that asbestos was used within the gas mask to filter out toxic gasses. We certainly were not surprised to learn that back in the WW2 period, children were often frightened of the gas masks. To help with their fears the red ‘Mickey Mouse’ mask was created.
For our D&T project this term, we thought about what we would like a gas mask to look like if we had to wear one in 2024 and got busy designing and then making our creations!
